Since July 2024, LyondellBasell leveraged UAB-Online’s software to streamline its liquid bulk handling process for inland shipping at the Wesseling site. Already familiar with UAB-Online’s SaaS platform at the Maasvlakte terminal, LyondellBasell has now successfully implemented the inland shipping module at Wesseling. This integration enhances the efficiency and safety of handling chemical products such as polyethylene, polypropylene, and other key compounds. By utilising UAB-Online’s platform, LyondellBasell achieves smoother, safer, and more sustainable operations.
LyondellBasell's Wesseling Complex in the Cologne/Rhineland region consists of two manufacturing sites. The Wesseling site, established in 1953, is LyondellBasell’s largest facility in Europe, covering over 2.7 square kilometres. The Knapsack site, located 15 kilometres away in the Chemiepark Knapsack, started in 1970. Together, these sites have a production capacity of over 2.2 million tons of polyolefins annually, with facilities including two crackers, multiple polyethylene and polypropylene plants, and an advanced polyolefins plant. The complex also has its own power and wastewater treatment plants. It employs approximately 1,400 employees, 170 trainees, and 1,000 contractors at Wesseling, with an additional 150 employees at Knapsack. The products manufactured are used in various applications such as films, coatings, fuel tanks, and household items.
LyondellBasell’s operations at the Wesseling site benefited significantly now that the processes regarding inland shipping are digitised. For example the attestation of unloading (CDNI) is digitally available Lyondell eliminates the need to enter the data twice. Additionally, a smart link with the substances list allows for easy lookup of NSTR numbers and types of goods. After the signing, both the inland terminal and the captain receive the ADN in pdf format and is stored in the digital announcement dossier on the platform of UAB-Online. Furthermore, the UAB-Online platform also manages pre-arrival announcements, announcements for inland terminals and one file for sharing and signing documents like ADN, CDNI, VOW and terminal specific documents.
